Nature Grows Stronger Students: How Exposure to Nature Strengthens Students, Academically, Emotionally, and Environmentally

This poster, presented at Dominican University’s Scholarship and Ideas Expo, exemplifies my ability to conduct thorough research, synthesize data, and create compelling visual content. The project focuses on the impact of green spaces on students, particularly in urban environments, and offers practical recommendations for integrating nature into educational settings.

Creation Process:
In developing this project, I conducted extensive research using pre-existing studies to highlight the significant impact of green spaces on students, particularly in urban environments.

Research and Writing:

  • Background Research: I explored the challenges urban students face in accessing green spaces and identified the mental health benefits provided by nature.
  • Data Compilation: I compiled data from various studies, emphasizing the correlation between green spaces and improved academic performance.
  • Content Development: I synthesized the findings into a cohesive narrative, focusing on the positive effects of natural environments on students with ADHD and those facing social-emotional challenges.

Presentation and Design:

  • Visual Communication: The poster style format was required for the expo, so I designed it to clearly convey complex data through visual elements such as graphs and images, making the information accessible and engaging.
  • Key Findings: The poster presents key insights, including the significant positive impact of green environments on students’ stress levels, academic performance, and overall well-being.

Expo Experience:

  • Presentation Skills: Presenting this research at the expo involved articulating complex information clearly and confidently to judges, participants, and audience members. I effectively communicated the significance of my findings and their practical applications.
  • Engagement: Engaging with a diverse audience allowed me to highlight the practical applications of my findings, such as creating gardens and outdoor play spaces, utilizing local parks, and integrating outdoor education into the curriculum.

This project not only showcases my commitment to environmentally friendly design but also highlights my strengths in research, writing, content creation, and strategic communication. My ability to create informative and visually appealing content demonstrates my versatility and effectiveness in both educational and marketing contexts.
